Lesson 13: The Future of Nursing Leadership

In your blog (Reflective Journal), discuss where you see nursing leadership moving towards in the next five (5) and ten (10) years.

I hope that in the next 5 years, residency programs become mandatory. I was able to complete a residency program, and it did help me to transition to being an RN. I do not see nursing programs moving toward BSN programs only because the shortage of nurses is too great. Nursing in general I hope in the next 5-10 years will increase its influence on legislation for the better, but I do not think in reality it will happen. For the profession as a whole, I do not see great changes happening in the next 5-10 years. Evidence based nursing was a big recent change, now we have to continually update practices according to research.

Personally, I see my nursing leadership expanding in the next 5-10 years. I will soon take a class to train me to be a clinical coach. Then I will be able to help train new nurses better. I hope to become a charge nurse within the next 5 years. Within the next 10 years, I hope to either complete my DNP or a  masters in nursing so I can teach nursing on the side of my career. Another job I would also like to try sometime within my career is to be a clinical educator. I really liked spending time with my clinical educator and would like to try that. I don't know exactly what opportunities will come my way, but I am excited to see what happens!
